Prior to 1991, he was managing director of Amari plc, an international group of engineering companies, from 1969 until 1988 when it was acquired by Glynwed International plc. He has previously been a member of the AIM advisory committee and was Chairman of Tanfield from its admission to AIM in December 2003 to June 2005.
Roy Stanley, Chairman of Tanfield since 2005, will step down as Chairman on 1 January 2010, but will remain a non-executive director of Tanfield. He has also accepted an invitation from Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation (SEV US Corp), Tanfield's 49% owned US Electric Vehicle associate, to become non-executive Chairman. This is in addition to Tanfield's existing two representatives on the SEV US Corp Board.
Jerry Wooding, who joined Tanfield's Board in June this year, will become Deputy Chairman of Tanfield with effect from 1 January 2010.
Roy Stanley said today: "The Board is delighted to welcome Jon back as a non-executive director. We look forward to working with him again and are sure his advice and support will be invaluable. It has been a privilege for me to have chaired Tanfield for the past four and a half years. I look forward to maintaining my involvement with the Group and in particular to helping SEV US realise its full potential."
Jon Pither said: "I am delighted to be rejoining Tanfield and look forward to working with the team as they continue to guide the Group through the current downturn and build for the future. I am also delighted that Roy is joining the Board of SEV US Corp, where I believe his energy and entrepreneurial vision will be of real benefit. I am also pleased that we will be retaining his expertise at Tanfield, as a non-executive director."
